About a decade ago, the first Airless cosmetic products began to appear on the market. At that time, voices of doubt were heard in the packaging market, which over time turned into a growing belief. Yet five years ago, the prognosis was moderate. Today we can already see that Airless is the future, and cosmetics producers more and more often, instead of questions about whether Airless packaging is available at all, they ask directly about the possibility of decorating them or even creating individual projects.
Airless packaging – a new era in the cosmetics industry
Airless packaging has shed a completely new perspective on the issue of protecting cosmetic substances against oxidation. The packaging that does not allow the product to come into contact with air. Thanks to the use of a special pump and a piston or a bag for the medium, almost immediately showed the disadvantages of traditional pumps forcing air into the packaging and cosmetic jars.
Due to the high prices of this type of packaging and fear of novelty, Airless did not become a hit immediately after its introduction to the market. Even in 2016, the market reports on Airless packaging made it clear: this is a packaging for premium products only. But the forecast has completely failed. Airlesses hit the middle class products by storm, and started to show in mass products.
The predictions did not take into account the fact that societies are becoming richer and that the purchasing habits of consumers have changed. It was assumed that the higher price of Airless packaging would scare off smaller businesses or the final price of the cosmetic would discourage users. However, no one expected that a growing group of mass consumers would change their purchasing approach and be ready to pay more for products with increased efficiency, safer to use, environmentally friendly, vegan or simply more “fashionable”.
In 2020, airless products have already become half of the packaging offered on store shelves. Their use was growing at the fastest pace in the group of masstige products (an intermediate group between mass products and prestigious products).

Airless packaging has similar possibilities of decoration as cosmetic jars or other containers that do not protect the substances against the constant access of air. In fact, it can be said that 99% of Airless packages are decorated in their basic form, because they are mainly white in color, which is obtained by dyeing the material in the mass. However, it is worth remembering that it is possible to dye the material in almost any color, which immediately allows you to stand out your product and match the color of its elements to the general vision of the cosmetics manufacturer.
The second option, which is definitely more effective, is the metallization of the packaging or its elements. Giving a metallic, almost mirror effect definitely improves the overall perception of the product, which is given a luxurious character in a fashionable style.
